Love’s Half Life
imaginary feelings
I’d never had before
sprung up one day,
so dramatic
so powerful
they bowled me over
and have me reeling still
but I was too young
on my way to dirty thirty
a lifetime of lessons yet
ahead of me
but too drunk on folly
to work out how
to work things out
sensibly
I’d beg forgiveness
but begging is for losers
idiots who have no control
over their actions
every moment is choice
and beggars
can’t be choosers
you tried
to take my freedom from me,
got away with my hope
and let me know
there’s a cost to love
a bounty on my emotion
up and down,
back and forth i was
a puppet on a string
sometimes, I can’t believe
how easy it was
for you to run off
and let her in
I remember our fights,
how much I didn’t know,
how little you
were willing to show
I couldn’t guess
if you wanted this
madness
in my head
is not enough
alone, I tired early
of going up against the world
but after you
I’ve got a point to prove
I won’t fall again,
I’m above it
all this stupid
happy horse
love shit
